Seals offers clear vision for future

Attack ads and campaign rhetoric sometimes mislead us. This is why it is important to “do our homework” on the candidates ourselves.

For example, recent attack ads claim that Dan Seals supports tax increases; however, anyone who has checked out his website or heard him speak knows that Dan does not support tax increases in this fragile economy, a position that many Republican and Democratic economists share. His first priority is job creation, with emphasis on helping small business.

In previous campaigns, Dan consistently favored lowering taxes for the middle class. His decision not to increase anyone's taxes now is based on current economic conditions, not politics. His opponent, Robert Dold, on the other hand, has shifted his positions on several issues in the course of this campaign. These shifts make it difficult for even the conscientious voter to keep up.

Another myth is that Dan favors abortion. Not true. Pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. Dan believes that abortions should be legal, safe and rare, and if a woman does decide to have an abortion, she should do so with the help of her doctor and her God not her government. He also believes in promoting adoption. Robert Dold's version of “pro-choice” only gives choice to women of means.

Finally there is Robert Dold's plan to take money out of Social Security and invest it in Treasury bills. Social Security already does this, so why double services? Also, taking money out of Social Security makes it less solvent. Dan Seals wants to protect Social Security.

Based on my study of the candidates, I strongly support Dan Seals for Congress in the 10th District. His thoughtful positions reflect his integrity, his strong economics background, an in-depth understanding of the issues, and his clear vision for our future. I invite everyone else in the 10th District to join me in electing Dan Seals.
