No injuries in Crystal Lake townhouse fire

A fire in a five-unit Crystal Lake townhouse building caused about $450,000 in damage but no injuries midday Thursday.

Nine residents from three units in the 1200 block of Walnut Glen Drive were displaced, but no one was hurt. Red Cross was called to assist them.

Fire personnel arrived at 12:22 p.m. and put out the fire in two hours. It started on the second floor of one unit and moved to the attic of the adjoining unit. The one next to that sustained water damage.

Initially, four engines, three ambulances and one ladder truck responded. But with mutual aid eight engines, three ladder trucks, five ambulances and four chiefs responded.

The department is still investigating the cause and plans to have the report by next week.
