ICHS Knights Theatre Productions Presents the First Area High School Performance of Hairspray

Immaculate Conception High School Knights Theatre Productions is proud to present Hairspray, the award winning musical and movie, on April 15th through April 17th. Hairspray has delighted audiences by sweeping them away to 1960's Baltimore, where the 50's are out -- and change is in the air. Loveable plus-size heroine, Tracy Turnblad, has a passion for dancing, and wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show." Overnight she finds herself transformed from outsider to teen celebrity. Can a larger-than-life adolescent manage to vanquish the program's reigning princess, integrate the television show, and find true love (singing and dancing all the while, of course!) without mussing her hair?

ICHS is actually is the first high school anywhere in the area to perform Hairspray. On a waiting list for three years to get the rights from the licensing company to do this show at ICHS, Knights Theatre Director Mark Dedowicz finally received the email that Hairspray was now available for school and amateur productions. “I immediately jumped at the opportunity to do this show “ said Dedowicz “ in less than 30 minutes from the time I got the email - we had the licensing right's”. Getting the right mix of students involved to make this production a success was going to be a challenge, however, the ICHS students responded and Knights Theatre has cast 45 students and a production crew of 10. Chicago native Christopher Bott will once again conduct the 13 person orchestra, comprised of professional musicians. Choreography is by Megan Simmons of Villa Park.

The cast members in the leading roles are: senior Julie D’Agostino (Tracy Turnblad), junior Brendan Daly (Edna Turnblad), senior Matt Kremske (Wilbur Turnblad), senior Lauren Cellini (Amber Von Tussle), senior Ali Hartnett (Velma Von Tussle), Megan Perez (Prudy Pingelton), Natalie D’Agostino (Penny Pingelton), Dan Vatch (Link Larkin), and Krystian Seebert (Corny Collins). “We couldn't be more excited to perform this wonderful show” admitted Dedowicz, “Our audiences will be treated to a very entertaining performance of this widely popular show”.
