Exchange Club of Grayslake lauds DAR chapter's efforts at cemetery

Three members of the Libertyville's Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter were invited by the Exchange Club of Grayslake to give a presentation on the background of the DAR, the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, and everything the chapter has accomplished at Mount Rest Cemetery in Wadsworth.

Exchange Club of Grayslake Treasurer Pam Oster reached out to the chamber to invite them to speak.

Chapter Regent Michelle Wilson spoke about DAR and about the chapter's community involvement, accompanied by a slide presentation.

Historical Preservation Committee Chairman Pam Holmes gave the background of the historic, 175-year-old Mount Rest Cemetery in Wadsworth and how the chapter became involved.

She showcased the Sept. 30 event at which the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, supported by several veteran and community groups, marked the graves of three veterans that were previously unmarked, one for 51 years. She stressed that no veteran should lie in an unmarked grave.

She also shared pictures with the Exchange Club of the Veteran/DAR Memorial Tribute Brick Garden that was dedicated at the Sept. 30 event. Holmes also gave a sneak preview of next year's planned unveiling of Civil War Veteran Samuel Ames' headstone, which was also unmarked.

The Exchange Club of Grayslake presented the chapter with an honorarium in support of the Mount Rest Cemetery project.
