Unilever foundation gives $2,500 grant for needy children

Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) was honored to receive a $2,500 grant from Unilever United States Foundation, Inc. to sponsor needy kids in the charity's Children's Birthday Project. This is the second grant in recent years that HSP has received from Unilever Foundation.

The funds will be used for HSP's Children's Birthday Project which provides a child ages 3-12 with a 25-30 lb. Birthday Box containing 6 new books, 6-15 new toys, school supplies, stuffed animals, one new game, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. The child receives the birthday package the week of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas time, back-to-school supplies, and the child's family becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program as well.

The Unilever United States Foundation, Inc. website states that to succeed requires, "the highest standards of corporate behavior towards everyone we work with, the communities we touch, and the environment on which we have an impact." Karole Kettering, Executive Director of HSP said, “Unilever's Foundation has certainly been successful in touching so many lives of the underprivileged children we serve.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP is given the highest honor charity by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year. HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
