Subaru of America Foundation offers $5,000 grant to alleviate hunger

Subaru of America Foundation, Inc. (SOAF) presented Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) with a $5,000 grant for the charities Feed the Kids Project. HSP was able to take in this money and use it to feed the impoverished children and families that experience a nutritional gap during the summer months. SOAF focuses on giving funds to those community organizations that are youth-based.

HSP's mission of helping 100 low-income families in the Kane and DuPage counties with a total of 750 lbs of food in the summer months was a natural fit for Subaru of America Foundation's selection criteria. SOAF likes to help out community organizations that best support their mission and practice the values of Subaru, and HSP was fortunate to receive one of the their grants.

When asked how the grant will help HSP's Feed the Kids Project Karole Kettering, Executive Director said, “These funds will help over 450 needy children get the nutrition they need for growing bodies and minds. These children would otherwise face hunger on a daily basis.”

HSP's Feed the Kids Project fills the nutrition gap for low- income children when school is out for the summer is looking forward continuing working with Subaru of America Foundation Inc. These children, who receive the majority of their daily nutrients from federally subsidized meals at school through the School Breakfast Program and National Lunch Program, experience a drastic reduction in nutrition during the summer months and often go hungry. By providing their families with a total of 750 pounds of food in June, July, and August, the Feed the Kids Project is able to relieve the hunger and stress that these needy children face. Each food package contains nutritious, vitamin-rich foods - 9 varieties of fresh vegetables, 9 selections of fresh fruits, 7 selections of frozen meats, at least four 25-pound boxes of non-perishables, and child-friendly healthy snacks.
