Sheriff: Teens attack deputies during domestic violence arrest

A pair of Lake County sheriff’s deputies were attacked Sunday as they attempted to arrest a juvenile boy on domestic violence allegations, authorities said Monday.

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputies were dispatched to the 25000 block of Grass Lake Road near Antioch at about 3:30 p.m. for a report of a domestic battery in progress.

After arriving and investigating, the deputies determined a 17-year-old boy punched a family member in the face multiple times, sheriff’s police said.

The deputies asked the boy to step outside the home, informed him he was under arrest and were placing his arms behind his back when a 17-year-old female friend began interfering, according to sheriff’s police.

While the girl grabbed at the belt, baton and Taser of one of the deputies in an attempt to stop the arrest, the boy bit the arm of the other deputy, authorities said. The boy then broke free and ran before being tackled by a deputy.

After being tackled, the boy punched the deputy in the face two times, according to the sheriff’s office. The other deputy was able to place the girl into custody and then help place the boy in handcuffs. However, the boy still was able to kick one of the deputies in the neck, authorities said.

Neither deputy was injured during the struggle, sheriff’s police said.

The boy was referred to juvenile court on four counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, four counts of resisting arrest and aggravated domestic battery, according to the sheriff’s office. Referrals are pending on the girl, they added.
