Warren hockey going pink:
Gurnee-based Warren Township High School's girls and boys club hockey teams will wear pink today and Wednesday as a show of support for breast cancer awareness month. In addition, breast cancer awareness buttons will be sold for $1 apiece, and hockey pins with a pink ribbon for $3 at the Warren's girls opener against Naper Valley at 8:10 p.m. today. The fundraising merchandise to benefit the American Cancer Society also will be available Wednesday at the boys games against Stevenson High School, starting with the junior varsity at 7:10 p.m. and including the varsity at 8:30 p.m. Warren's home hockey games are at Rinkside Sports Arena in Gurnee Mills.
Nobel Peace nominee to speak:
Kathy Kelly, three-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, will speak at McHenry County College's conference center at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21. In her presentation, "Witness to War: Injustice From Palestine to Pakistan," she will speak about her personal experiences in the war zones. She is co-founder and coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence and a renowned world peace activist.
