NU frosh youngest winner in state amateur tourney

At the age of 18 years, 2 months and 3 days, incoming Northwestern freshman Ravi Patel of Naperville (Neuqua Valley) became the youngest winner in the 77-year history of the 2007 Illinois State Amateur Championship at Ironhorse Golf Club in Tuscola.

Patel shot rounds of 65, 69 and 68 for the 3-stroke win, good for a winning total of 11-under par.

Bring it on: The 46th annual Radix Cup Matches, conducted by the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA) and the Illinois Section PGA, will take place today at Oak Park Country Club in River Grove.

The 2007 CDGA team consists of John Ehrgott (Coyote Creek), Mark Espositio (Schaumburg Golf Club), John Finnin (Balmoral Woods), Andrew Gabelman (Oak Park Country Club), Rob Grube (Hinsdale), Rick LeHew (Weaver Ridge), Brad Marek (Mount Prospect GC), Todd Mitchell (Crestwicke), Michael Natale (Idlewild), Dave Ryan (Piper Glen), Steve Sawtell (Skokie CC) and John Wright (Oak Brook).

The 2007 Illinois PGA squad is made up Roy Biancalana (St. Andrews), Steve Dunning (Oak Park), Gary Groh (Bob O'Link), Jason Lee (Ridgemoor), Danny Mulhearn (Glen Oak), Steve Murray (Prairieview), Brett Packee (CORE Golf), David Paeglow (Kishwaukee), Kevin Rafferty (Flossmoor), Billy Rosinia (Flagg Creek), Darren Stanek (Oak Club of Genoa) and Michael Troy (Zigfield).
