Huntley area library to celebrate 20th year at open house

20th Anniversary: This year the library celebrates its growth and success with an anniversary party. Two events are planned so that everyone in the community will be able to attend. For adults, an open house will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. There will be a short program and tours available, as well as light refreshments and musical entertainment for a relaxing evening at the library. RSVP for this event by Sept. 28 by calling the reference desk at (847) 669-5386, ext. 21. Children are invited to help celebrate the library's 20th birthday the week Oct. 4-10. Senior Coffee: Wendy Erickson, mortgage loan consultant with National City Bank, will discuss reverse mortgages - who qualifies, the terms and conditions, and the fees and costs associated with this type of loan - from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 at National City Bank, 13300 Route 47, Huntley. Refreshments sponsored by Northwest Home Health. Registration required.

Huntley Fall Fest Book Sale: The book sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at Rec Center gym, 12015 Mill St., Huntley. Book sale shoppers must pay the $2 Huntley Fall Fest entrance fee.

Teen Book Club: Club for youth in seventh through 12th grades will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at Old Village Hall, 11740 Coral St., Huntley. Join the group for snacks and conversation about books. Bring a book or two that you've read recently and share it with other teens. The group also will talk a little about the Abe Lincoln and Rebecca Caudill nominees and choose one or two of these to read for a future discussion. Register now.

Snap Shots: Group for youth in eighth through 12th grades will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Youth Services office at the library. Snap Shots members will be using techniques to "age" their photographs during this meeting giving them a "vintage" look. Bring one or more photo files to work with (jpeg, etc.). Register now.

Read It & Rate It: Youth in sixth through 12 grades can review a book for a chance to win the monthly prize. Fill out a review form, available at the Reference Desk, and turn it in by Sept. 30. You can review fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, manga, and/or audio books.
