Help the library become an even better resource

These days, I am for investing in our library.

The Barrington Area Library referendum on Nov. 4 will make the Library:

• More cost efficient, by revamping existing space and building new space that is use-flexible, leverages staff, and improves the patron experience;

• More cost effective, by becoming more energy efficient and more technology capable;

• More community responsive, by providing more meeting rooms, better work and collaboration areas and more books and media;

• A stronger community asset, as studies show that libraries return many dollars for every dollar invested (see www.barringtonarealibrary.com/ref/plan.html);

• Your lifelong learning resource, whether you come to the Library by yourself, virtually, or with an organization or friends.

The referendum will cost only 1 percent of your current tax bill - that's $10 for every $1,000 you actually pay to the county collector (not your assessed valuation). It is the most effective investment you can make - especially now.

I'm voting "yes" on Nov. 4, and I hope you will too. To hear more about how you can make your property more environmentally sustainable and hear about some of the Library's innovations, come to the Library on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. To help us spread the good news about the referendum and why it is in our best interest, please email me Faye@libraryreferendumyes.com.

Vote "Yes!" The Library stretches my dollars.
