Pizza guy robbed

An employee at Domino's Pizza in Gurnee was robbed at knifepoint Saturday after showing up to deliver a pizza at a house that actually was vacant, police said. The worker was not hurt in the stickup, which occurred about 9:45 p.m. on the 5600 block of Des Plaines Court in Gurnee. Two male thieves, both of whom had their faces covered, stole $20 and the pizza from the victim, and then they drove from the scene, police said.

Hawthorn Woods extends concert series

The Sensations have been added to Hawthorn Woods' summer Sunday Evening Concert in the Park series for a set from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 9. The concerts, which started in June, have consistently drawn strong attendance so a new date was added. The Sensations will play covers from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s in Community Park, at Old McHenry and Quentin roads. The event is free, and families are invited to bring a picnic or a bottle of wine to enjoy with the music.

Free kids health fair

About 600 volunteer doctors, dentists, nurses and other professionals will provide free health services to about 1,500 low-income children at Lake County's 17th annual Kids 1st Health Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Immunizations, lead tests, school physicals and other services will be offered. Participating children will receive new backpacks, school supplies and books, too. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Miguel Juarez Middle School, 201 N. Butrick St., Waukegan.

Used book sale in Lake Villa

The Friends of the Lake Villa District Library will host its annual used book sale from Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 13-15, at the library, 1001 E. Grand Ave. Preview Night for current Friends of the Lake Villa District Library members is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13. The sale will open to the public at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14 and run until 5 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 15, there will be a $5 per grocery paper bag sale from 9 a.m. to noon, and a $1 per plastic bag sale from noon to 4 p.m.
