Candy Day in Lake Villa:

Members of the Lake Villa Township Lion's Club, along with volunteers, will be on the streets Saturday, Oct. 2 and Sunday, Oct. 3 collecting donations for their organization. The group is still looking for volunteers to help in the fund drive. If you can volunteer, call David Hartwig at (847) 921-9555. the Lions Club service organization has 1.3 million members in 203 countries.

Fang-tastic Halloween at Lake Villa Library:

Get Halloween makeup tips from the experts on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lake Villa District Library. Employees from J J Blinkers in Antioch will explain how to craft the most effective makeup. The lesson will be followed by a showing of the classic Frankenstein movie. Pooch Pantry needs help:

The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center's Animal Care and Control program is seeking donations for the Pooch Pantry, a food pantry for dogs and cats. Requests for assistance from the pantry have increased while donations have decreased. Nearly 30 families visit the pantry each week to seek assistance in meeting the nutritional and care needs of their dogs and cats. Donations of dry dog and cat food, canned dog and cat food, biscuits, pet treats, cat litter and gift cards from area pet supply stores can be dropped off at the health department's animal care and control facility, 29278 N. Highway 83 in Mundelein, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Pooch Pantry is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays at animal care and control. Apple picking:

The Liberty Prairie Conservancy hosts an annual apple picking event 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Westerman Orchard, a private apple orchard and native tree nursery in Zion. More than 50 varieties of apples are grown on the property. The event includes a tour with Al Westerman, former president of the Lake County Forest Preserve District. Space is limited for the adults only event. Cost is $15 ($10 for members) plus the cost of apples, which are $1.25 per pound or $25 for 24 pounds.
