Batavia library's sex ed battle continues Tuesday
The debate over the link on the Batavia Public Library's Web site to a Planned Parenthood site on teen sex education will continue before the library board Tuesday night.
A hearing on a patron's protest reconvenes at 6 p.m. at the library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.
Last month, Kerry Knott formally appealed to the board to remove the link. Among other things, Teenwire features an animated cartoon of a penis and a vagina discussing how a woman becomes pregnant, in a humorous TV-show format.
After Tuesday's hearing, the library board will vote on Knott's appeal.
In the meantime, the library has added a link to familydoctor.org, as suggested by Knott. That site is run by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Library Director George Sheetz said it is uncommon for the library to have disputes over its materials or its Web site.
"One is a lot," he said.
Typically, requests are heard by a review committee, and if the patron disagrees with their decision, they may appeal to the full library board.
