Sneak peek at new store to benefit Dist. 96

Kildeer Countryside School District 96 will be the beneficiary of a six-day shopping spree as the new Crate & Barrel opens in Deer Park Town Center.

Cocktails and appetizers will be served during a private preview shopping evening next Wednesday. Reservations are $25 per person.

"All are invited to join the fun," said Maureen Stolman of Buffalo Grove, chairman of the District 96 Foundation for Educational Excellence.

The kickoff event will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the store, 20530 North Rand Road.

The reservation fee will go to the foundation as well as a portion of the money from sales that night and then from the official opening the next day through Labor Day.

Crate & Barrel spokeswoman Bette Kahn said she couldn't comment on the percentage of sales that would be donated because that decision is made afterward, with the amount adjusted upward if sales are less than expected. Already, two vendors attending the party have donated $1,000, she said.

"Over the years, the foundation has funded many worthy arts and sciences projects, including technology labs and learning center resources in the middle schools," Stolman said. "The foundation has also awarded grants for staff training and given scholarships to two graduating seniors from Stevenson High School and has partnered with the Band and Orchestra Boosters.

"We are very excited about this evening with Crate & Barrel," she added. "Deer Park neighbors and the community are invited to be the first to shop the exciting new store. A portion of all dollars spent through the entire housewares and furniture collections will benefit the foundation."
