Incumbents win in Huntley library race

The incumbents running for re-election to the Huntley Area Public Library board fended off the competition to handily retain their seats Tuesday.

With all precincts reporting, unofficial tallies say Board President Kathleen Pilat, Secretary Leslie Threadgill-Smith and Trustee Judith Klein received 1,652, 1,255 and 1,684 votes respectively.

Challengers Guy DeMaertelaere and Jeanne Adu-Brako received 1,060 and 744 votes respectively.

Given the tough economic times, candidates have put a $9.5 million referendum to triple the size of the modest building at Main Street and Ruth Road, on the back burner.

They instead pledged several cost-cutting and revenue-generating measures to help the library weather the economic storm.
