SportClips deals, Batman auction and Pumpkin Days

After a $1.7 million renovation and two months of working out of trailers and condensed spaces, the Dundee Township Public Library is now open. The library reopened Friday.

The once-cramped and dingy interior of the building at 555 Barrington Ave, East Dundee, is now a bright and airy space with upgraded technology, sleek new furniture and a calming palette of greens, browns and blues. The space is now utilized to its full potential with books and media such as DVDs and CDs on display across the main floor.

But even with all of the material available to check out, the floor-to-ceiling windows are no longer obstructed. You can look out of a window from almost every spot in the library. If you want to get closer, new lounges are set up in certain corners of the library. The space felt up-to-date and welcoming. I encourage all to check out the new digs.

Good sports: I wish my hairdresser had flat-panel plasma televisions hung on the wall for me to watch. Luckily, for men and boys there's SportClips in Carpentersville. The store at 27 S. Western Ave., in front of Home Depot, is celebrating its second anniversary in the village and is offering loyal customers and new patrons a deal.

From Sept. 28 through November 15, franchise owner Dennis Malec is offering half off all services with coupons found in local newspapers.

"Our first two years here in Carpentersville have been a tremendous success and we want to say thank you to the loyal clients who make this such a fun experience," Malec said in a news release. "It will be a great opportunity for everyone to come out and help us celebrate this important milestone."

The Texas-headquartered company is one of the fastest growing franchises in the country. It surrounds its clients with televisions tuned to sports and sports-themed decor, serving clients on a walk-in basis. The hair care franchise is known for its MVP Experience, which includes a steamed towel treatment, neck and shoulder massage and precision haircut.

Pumpkin Days: It's fall and Immanuel Lutheran School in East Dundee is kicking off the season with its Fourth Annual Pumpkin Days on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4. The school is located at 5 E. Van Buren St.

The festivities will include fun for the whole family, including a jumping castle, silent auction and craft fair. Visitors can also participate in a Cake Walk and frost their own cookies. Food, drinks, pumpkins and mums will also be on sale.

Admission is free and tickets for food and games are available at the event. The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 and from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4.
