Learn more about the Sugar Grove library district

Did you know that the Sugar Grove Public Library District serves over 15,000 residents and covers about 39 square miles? The district includes the village of Sugar Grove, unincorporated Sugar Grove, unincorporated Aurora in Blackberry, Sugar Grove Township, and the Sugar Grove Township residents who live in the village of Montgomery.

You can learn more about the library district, including recent history, and see the architect's drawing of the new library by stopping in the current one at 54 Snow St.

Ask for the CD at the desk. It can be played on the library's computer or on your laptop.

The Sugar Grove Public Library District and the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District each have a referendum on the ballot Nov. 4. Yes, the questions do involve approval for increased funding.

Elburn dinners: The community is invited to the Elburn American Legion Auxiliary all-you-can-eat spaghetti supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at the American Legion Post 630 at 112 N. Main St.

Spaghetti with homemade meat sauce, green salad, garlic bread and lots of desserts will be served. You can dine at the legion hall or pick some up to take home. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children age 6 to 12. Children 5 years or younger eat for free. Proceeds will support community activities.

• The Elburn Seniors will meet for a potluck Thanksgiving dinner at noon Nov. 6 at Lions Park, 500 Filmore St. in Elburn. The meat will be provided. Guests are asked to bring a dish to share.

Scholarship winner: Waubonsee Community College student Ashley Ritter of Elburn was recently awarded $1,000 as part of the Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program. Ritter was one of only 400 students nationwide who received the award. She was selected by demonstrating a commitment to academic achievement and community service.

A sophomore education major with a 3.91 grade point average, Ritter is a member of the Waubonsee Student Education Association and Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges. She is also one of the college's Gustafson Scholars, a select group of students who are awarded full scholarships for two years of study at Waubonsee, because of their high academic achievement and leadership potential. These students are required to attend leadership courses and perform service to the college and the community.
