Sugar Grove Public Library notes

The Sugar Grove Public Library and Library Friends will jointly host a Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce and Industry After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the library, 54 Snow St., Sugar Grove. Local business owners and community business people are invited to learn more about the chamber and network with members.

The library has been a member of the Sugar Grove Chamber since the early days and will have several memory books of chamber history on display. This a great chance for the business community to see the new library plans and progress, explore online business resources offered by the library, and learn about library sponsorship opportunities.

The Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosts monthly membership meetings, educational, after-hours events, several yearly events including the golf outing and farmers market. For more information on joining the Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce & Industry, call (630) 466-7895 or visit sugargrovechamber.org.

Seeking candidates for library trustee: Library districts are a special unit of local government that have the responsibility to provide library service to an area. The library board of trustees take action to employ a director; make and set library policies; and make and pass the necessary budget, appropriations, and levy for tax revenue in support of that library service.

There are seven non-partisan, elected or appointed trustees on the board. A standard term of office is six years. Appointments to the board are until the time of the next consolidated election in the spring of an odd-numbered year. Trustees serve without compensation.

The next election is April 7 and the Sugar Grove Library is seeking candidates for: two full 6-year terms; one vacancy for a two-year term; and one vacancy for a four-year term. The state board of elections has the information necessary for becoming a candidate for the office of library trustee. Look at the 2009 Candidates Guide at www.elections.state.il.us/Votinginformation/welcome.aspx or make an appointment with the library director Beverly Holmes Hughes by calling (630) 466-4686, ext. 102.
