59th District office reopens

Residents of the 59th state legislative district are invited to join newly seated Rep. Carol Sente to the reopening of the constituent office. Sente, who was appointed to replace Kathy Ryg, will be available 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the office, 50 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 114, Vernon Hills. Regular office hours are weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first Saturday of each month. Call (847) 680-5909. Sente on Monday announced she will serve on the: House Human Service Appropriations; Aging; Cities and Villages; Disability Services; and, Renewable Energy committees when the legislature resumes next month. The 59th District includes Waukgan, North Chicago, Mundelein, Green Oaks, Vernon Hills, Lincolnshre, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove and Wheeling and other communities.

Day of Play

The Vernon Hills Park District hosts a Day of Play from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. The free event at Deerpath Park, near the Cherokee Road entrance, encourages families to get outdoors and play. Structured and unstructured activities include a baggo tournament, moonwalk, sand volleyball, basketball contests, sack races, egg toss, hoola hoop contests and more. Families are asked to register at (847) 996-6800. The event will be moved to the Sullivan Community Center if the weather is unsuitable for outdoor activities.

Road to close

Chevy Chase Road in the Countryside Lake subdivision will be closed from Hawley Street to Gilmer Road beginning Tuesday through Saturday, Sept. 26 to all but local traffic. The road will be closed completely at Indian Creek to allow the Fremont Township Highway Department to replace a collapsed culvert. Call (847) 223-2848.

BookArt Contest/Collage for Kids

The Lake Villa District Library invites area children to enter its BookArt Annual Contest for Kids. The Youth Services Department is looking for children ages 5 through 12 to create an original collage that celebrates books and reading. The contest will be judged by local art teachers. Winners will be chosen in three age categories, as well as an overall Best in Show winner. Entry forms are available now at the Youth Services Reference Desk.
