Armory gets stimulus money

The Elgin Armory is slated to receive $625,000 in federal stimulus funding under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. The money is slated to help pay for the building's rehabilitation project. The government awarded a total of $38 million to statewide defense facilities for various projects.

Library offers Rewards Cards

The Huntley Area Public Library has introduced a new Rewards Card to help its patrons save money during the recession. The card entitles its holder to one reward each month until August 2009. Rewards include $2 off the price of a book and a free stuffed animal. Library district residents who apply for a new library card by March 31 will receive a Rewards Card. ECC waives job fair fee

Elgin Community College has waived the $275 registration fee for employers participating in the college's April 2 job fair. Peggy Gundrum, director of ECC's career services department, said eliminating the fee encourages more employer participation during a time when they may be thinking twice about what to spend their money on. The job fair will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Spartan Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Tidal wave auction

St. Edward Central Catholic High School in Elgin will hold its 20th annual Tidal Wave Auction/Dinner Dance, with the theme "Fruit of the Vine," on April 4 at the Stonegate Centre in Hoffman Estates. Sponsorships and donations are now being accepted for this largest fundraiser of the year. More than 300 are expected to attend. Cost is $80 per person, which includes dinner, dancing, silent/live auctions and an open bar. Items up for bid will include Michael Jordan and Derrick Rose autographed basketballs, a wine tasting party, sporting events tickets, several Chicago Bears autographed footballs, restaurant gift certificates, electronic products and more.
