Rolling Meadows plans city hall upgrades

Rolling Meadows will spend more than $500,000 on upgrades to its city hall/police station building and parking lots.

The bulk of the work will include improvements to the exterior of the building at 3600 Kirchoff Road, following a 2010 structural evaluation that found stucco panels and masonry were failing and painted fascia panels peeling.

The $481,500 building renovation project will include stucco repairs, replacement of fascia and soffits, cleaning and restoration of masonry, installation of new doors and frames, structural steel fabrication, installation of a parking guidance system and removal and replacement of overhead police department garage doors.

The city is spending more than $73,500 on improvements to the front and side parking lots, including resurfacing and striping, new sidewalks, curbs, gutters and detectable warning ramps, removal of concrete islands, more landscaping, and installation of underground electrical lines to hook up to a new community sign. Upgrades to the rear parking lot were done last year.

City officials are aiming to have the parking lots done before the first Farmers and Food Trucks City Market on May 27.

Some work will be done during nonbusiness hours Saturdays to try to lessen the impact to operations during the week, officials said.
