Hannah Montana toys takes over Bratz spot
Look out Barbie, you've got competition this year. Hannah Montana is making her way onto more and more little girls holiday gift wish lists.
Barbie retains her top spot on the hot toys list for girls, but Hannah Montana jumped four spots this year to the No. 2 placeholder, according to the National Retail Federation's 2008 Top Toys survey conducted by BIGresearch.
If you're not in tuned with little girl stuff, Hannah Montana is an Emmy Award-nominated television series on Disney Channel. An array of dolls, clothing, music and games are available focusing on a girl who lives a double life as an average teenage schoolgirl named Miley Stewart, played by Miley Cyrus, by day and famous pop singer named Hannah Montana by night.
Montana merchandise replaces Mattel's Bratz dolls, often criticized for their risque image. Bratz dropped to the fourth spot. This season, video games and High School Musical merchandise also appeared for the first time on the top ten list for girls.
Top gifts for boys will be similar to last year, with electronics taking the top spots in the form of video games and Nintendo Wii, according to the survey. Boys will also request Legos, cars and Transformers. Traditional Star Wars and Hot Wheels re-emerged on the top ten list this year after falling off the list in previous years.
