Sugar Grove trustee resigns due to move
Sugar Grove Trustee Kevin Geary announced Tuesday night that he is resigning because he is moving out of town.
Actually, he got about six words in to his prepared statement before handing it off to President Sean Michels to read because he was too emotional to talk.
Geary's resignation is effective Aug. 31. There will be a farewell reception at the Aug. 15 board meeting.
The Gearys have moved to farm in Keithsburg ("population 1,100 on a good day," Geary quipped.) His wife, Sugar Grove Township Trustee Laurie Geary, has already "semi-relocated out there," he said. She also resigned her post Tuesday. The two have one child, an adult son who lives in Alabama.
Geary has been a trustee for 18 years. He ran once for mayor.
"I'd like to say it has been a great honor to serve the great citizens of this great community," he said.
"It is difficult to leave this community because it so phenomenal, but the opportunity allured us away," Geary said.
Geary's term expires in 2019. No schedule was announced for appointing a replacement, who would serve the remainder of the term.
