Arlington Heights man accused of unauthorized video recording in bathroom

Bond was set at $50,000 Wednesday for an Arlington Heights man accused of placing a hidden camera that recorded video of people using the bathroom during an Easter gathering at his home.

Matthew Rosecrans, 36, is charged with 22 counts of unauthorized videotaping. Six of the people in the recordings were under age 18, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Molly Bruno.

Rosecrans is accused of placing a camera with a view of the toilet and sink in the exhaust fan in a first-floor bathroom of his home on April 21. The camera captured Rosecrans removing it at the end of the day, Bruno said.

The recordings came to light a month later when a witness spotted unauthorized videos on a laptop computer used by Rosecrans, Bruno said.

Rosecrans was ordered to have no contact with anyone under 18 or with anyone shown in the videos and to surrender any firearms and his passport.
