Aurora man charged with gun-running

A 19-year-old Aurora man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he sold guns to undercover police.

Armando Recendez, of the 600 block of West Galena Boulevard, was arrested Aug. 21 and charged with armed violence, gunrunning, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a firearm without a firearm owners identification card.

The Kane County state's attorney's office announced the charges Thursday in a news release.

Prosecutors allege that on March 10 Recendez sold a 9 mm handgun and ammunition to an undercover police officer for $250. Then on Aug. 12, he sold a stolen .38-caliber handgun, ammunition and Xanax pills to an undercover officer for $490, authorities said. Officials said Recendez on Aug. 18 sold a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun and Xanax pills to an undercover officer for $500.

When police searched Recendez's home on Aug. 21, they found additional pills and firearm ammunition, authorities said.

The investigation was made by the Illinois State Police and the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group.

According to the news release, Recendez was sentenced to probation in July for a felony drug charge.

On Aug. 22, Judge Alice Tracy set bail at $500,000 for Recendez. As of Thursday morning, Recendez remained in custody.
