Landscape worker who drowned in Batavia identified as West Chicago man

The Kane County coroner's office has identified the 56-year-old worker who died Monday after being trapped under a lawn mower in a Batavia pond.

A preliminary autopsy revealed Alberto Amaro, a West Chicago resident, drowned, according to a news release issued Wednesday.

Amaro, who was an employee of Waldschmidt and Associates of West Chicago, was pronounced dead at Northwestern Delnor Hospital in Geneva after police, firefighters and his co-workers pulled him from the pond.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating his death.

Police said there were no witnesses who saw Amaro go into the water. Toxicology results are still pending.
