Libertyville District 70 swears in new board member

Angela K. Balanag, a Libertyville resident and parent of a student at Copeland Manor School, was sworn in Monday as a new Libertyville Elementary School District 70 board member.

Balanag was unanimously approved to complete the term of Linda Lucke, who resigned after moving out of District 70 boundaries. The term ends after the April 6 election.

Balanag is an educator who began her career as a substitute teacher in Libertyville Vernon Hills High School District 128 and Waukegan Community School District 60. She also has taught at Antioch Community High School and served two years as the head coach of the boys bowling team at Grant Community High School. She has a master's degree in school leadership from Northeastern Illinois University and a master's degree in English and teaching and learning from DePaul University.

She was sworn in by school board President Wendy Schilling, who assumed that role after former president Tom Vickers stepped down Nov. 19 due to work obligations. The board voted Marc Grote as the new vice president.
