Antioch man charged with assault, unlawful restraint

David Lewis, of the 300 block of Ginger Lane, was taken into custody Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest, authorities said Wednesday in a news release.

The acquaintance told police that she had been held against her will by Lewis and that he had threatened her with a weapon Monday, the news release said.

Lewis has been charged with one count of unlawful restraint and one count of aggravated assault, both felonies. A firearm restraining order was also filed against Lewis by the Antioch Police Department.

Police said officers searching his home found a weapon believed to have been used in the assault.

The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System response team assisted Antioch police in serving the arrest warrant.

"Having the ability to utilize the NIPAS SWAT team was critical in peacefully resolving this situation," said Antioch Chief Geoffrey Guttschow. "The team members of NIPAS are highly skilled and trained for situations like this, which could very quickly escalate into a more dangerous situation."

Bail was set at $350,000. Lewis would need to post $35,000 to be released from the Lake County jail pending trial. His next court date is Sept. 26.
