Police: Two men caught accused of stealing clothes from Oakbrook Center Macy's

Two men who officials said stole more than $1,700 worth of merchandise from the Macy's at Oakbrook Center mall on Monday have been charged with felony counts of burglary and theft.

Abel Barrios-Estava, 20, and Rafael Mata-Torres, 25, were released First Appearance Court Tuesday morning. As a condition of their release, both men will be fitted with an electronic monitoring device and must refrain from entering any Macy's store, officials said.

Both men are from Venezuela and are staying in Chicago, according to officials.

Oak Brook police said each man took multiple items of clothing and tried to leave the store without paying at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Barrios-Estava was stopped by loss prevention staff members but ran away from them. Barrios-Estava was arrested by Oak Brook police officers after a brief foot chase, officials said.

With the help of loss prevention staffers, Mata-Torres was taken into custody by Oak Brook police officers inside the store, officials said.

Barrios-Estava and Mata-Torres are both due back in court on Nov. 20.
