Elgin Master Chorale opens season Nov. 11 at ECC with Schubert Mass

The Elgin Master Chorale opens its 2018-19 season with a performance of Franz Schubert's "Mass #5 in A Flat Major," at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the Blizzard Theatre at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive.

Led by its music director, Maestro Andrew Lewis, the Elgin Master Chorale will be joined in this performance by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and soloists Kimberly Jones (soprano), Orna Arania (mezzo soprano), Hoss Brock (tenor) and Vince Wallace (bass).

Although there is no evidence that the work was performed during the composer's brief lifetime, Schubert's Mass #5 has survived through nearly 200 years as a highly creative example of his mature choral and orchestral writing.

The concert also features the EMC Children's Chorus, singing for the first time under its new music director, Matthew Bishop.

Tickets are available by phone at (847) 622-0300, online at www.ElginMasterChorale.org and at the Blizzard Theatre box office.

In recognition of the concert being performed on the traditional date of Veteran's Day, special tickets are available to active duty and veteran U.S. military personnel through Vet Tix at www.vettix.org/esr/133614/1541004.

Founded as the Elgin Choral Union in 1947, the Elgin Master Chorale is the longest established performing arts organization in the Fox Valley and northwestern suburbs.
