Meetup spot established in Schaumburg for internet purchases

The Schaumburg Police Department now has a designated location for internet purchases and exchanges to be conducted safely at the police department.

The department is partnering with OfferUp as a registered site in the Schaumburg community.

The green sign indicating the "MEETUP SPOT" identifies the best place to park at 1000 W. Schaumburg Road when participating in an exchange.

The program will help eliminate the need for two strangers to exchange items at a home or residence. Having a designated public space to conduct a transaction can help deter criminal activity and keep both the buyers and sellers safe.

The spot at the police department is located in the front parking lot and is under video surveillance.

For more information about this initiative, call the village at (847) 895-4500 or dial 311 from within the village.
