Ela Township opens new pickleball, tennis and fitness courts at Knox Park

On June 21, Ela Township hosted a ribbon cutting event to introduce residents to their newly installed pickleball, tennis, and fitness courts at Knox Park in Lake Zurich.

Shortly after the current board took office, they realized that the facilities at the park needed repair, and in general the area was underutilized.

In July of 2022, township residents were surveyed, asking them what amenities they would most like to see at the park. The overwhelming response was pickleball courts. The township board agreed to budget the resources needed to develop the former hockey rink and tennis courts into four pickleball and two tennis courts.

The ribbon cutting event marked the much anticipated opening, and residents were lined up and eager to play, providing attendees with games to watch.

Ela Township also partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and the National Fitness Campaign. The township was awarded a $30,000 grant in order to bring an outdoor fitness court to Ela Township. It is the only one of its kind in Lake County.

With seven fitness zones, this court provides adults of all ages with a full body workout in only seven minutes at various ability levels, from beginner to advanced.

At the ribbon cutting, Supervisor Gloroa Palmblad, along with members of the Ela Township Board, and her son Eric Palmblad, provided an explanation of the court along with a brief demonstration while welcoming the public to take advantage of this great addition to the township.
