Lombard celebrates Arbor Day with tree tagging event
LOMBARD, Illinois—The Village of Lombard, in cooperation and partnership with the Morton Arboretum and Glenbard East High School, will celebrate Arbor Day with its annual celebration on April 25.
The celebration will include a tree tagging event, intended to educate the community on the value of trees in the world. The Morton Arboretum is leading a Chicagoland wide initiative to tag trees and selected Lombard to participate in this endeavor with them.
The tree tagging is also intended to create awareness and provide an opportunity to learn about careers in urban forestry. Glenbard East Ecology Club students will be tagging trees in the parkway near the high school. The students will get to work cooperatively with the arborists and foresters and learn how to identify trees and collect important data. The tree tags will include the monetary value of the trees, calculated by collected data that will be entered into the National Tree Benefits Calculator.
“We are grateful to have the opportunity to work with the Morton Arboretum and Glenbard East High School on this project,” said Steve Kremske, Lombard Forestry/Landscape Supervisor. “Arbor Day is one of those annual events that allow us to partner with the youth in the community and remind everyone the importance that trees play to our everyday lives,” he added.
