Celebrate Arbor Day at tree and shrub sale in Wauconda

The Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the village of Wauconda in the seventh annual tree and shrub sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at 610 W. Liberty Street, Wauconda, in the parking lot of Acres Group.

The event, which is designed to be part of the Arbor Day observance, offers a wide variety of trees, shrubs and ornamental plants for sale at below-retail prices, thanks to the Acres Group, a Wauconda landscaper.

A portion of the proceeds are allocated to a joint program between the village and the Chamber to fund a poster contest that teaches students to be more familiar with the environmental benefits provided by trees.

The contest is open to fifth-graders from Wauconda Grade School, Robert Crown Elementary School and Transfiguration Catholic School. All three schools will receive a planted tree for their participation.

To help kick-start the planting, free compost will be offered with any purchase. Midwest Organics, a local provider located at Golden Oaks Farm, is donating the compost.

The village public works department will provide free curbside tree delivery to Wauconda residents. The Chamber is accepting prepaid orders through Thursday, April 26, with a valid credit card. A complete plant list and prices can be found at www.waucondaareachamber.org.

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital and the Daily Herald are also sponsors of the event.

Trees and shrubs must be paid for at time of purchase. Contact the Chamber for additional information at (847) 526-5580.
