Fox Valley Hospice remembers and honors dads

Father’s Day is typically a happy day, celebrated with gifts and visits, but it can also be a day of remembrance and/or sadness for many.

For adults whose father has died, Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice is offering “Memories of Dad,” an evening of reflecting and remembering, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, June 11, at the hospice, 200 Whitfield Drive in Geneva.

The program is free with a refundable deposit. Registration is required by Thursday, June 7, at (630) 232-2233.

Whether the death loss was recent or some time ago, Father’s Day can be bittersweet, evoking fond memories and producing a heightened sense of loss.

In “Memories of Dad,” participants will learn comforting ways to honor their father’s memory, which could include new twists on old traditions or creating new ways to honor a father who has died. This group is a safe place to express feelings of loss and find comfort in others who have shared a similar loss.

Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice is a community-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those with life-threatening illnesses and those who have lost loved ones, serving all of Kane and Kendall counties, and parts of DuPage, Cook and McHenry counties.

In addition to one-on-one support, the agency also offers medical equipment loans, adult and children’s grief support groups, community education on end-of-life care and grief, and a community lending library. All services are provided free.
