Jake Lamb rejoins White Sox roster

On the injured list since June 28 with a strained right quadriceps, infielder/outfielder Jake Lamb was back with the Sox Friday at Wrigley Field.

Lamb played in 16 rehab games with Class AAA Charlotte, hitting .246 with 3 home runs and 8 RBI.

"The reports were glowing," manager Tony La Russa said. "He was compared to Eloy (Jimenez), as far as the work and the kind of contact they were making. He impressed defensively with his outfield work, and they gave him a lot of third base work, too. I think he's had a lot of playing time."

Lamb, who batted .224 with 5 homers and 10 RBI in 31 games with the White Sox earlier this season, didn't play in the series opener against the Cubs.

To clear a roster spot for Lamb, the White Sox optioned relief pitcher Matt Foster to Charlotte.
