Sox catcher Grandal to continue rehab at Class AAA Charlotte

Expected to play his first rehab game with Class AAA Charlotte Tuesday night, White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will have to wait another day due to a rainout.

Grandal has been out since July 6 with a torn left knee tendon.

He was 4-for-11 with 2 RBI in 4 games with AA Birmingham before being bumped up to Charlotte.

Left fielder Eloy Jimenez played rehab 10 games with Charlotte before rejoining the Sox, and center fielder Luis Robert needed only eight.

Considering he's a catcher, Grandal might need a little more time at Triple-A before he's ready to return.

"It's going to be a tougher evaluation for the folks down there, for (Charlotte manager) Wes Helms and the guys, just because it's more complicated with what he brings to a club," White Sox manager Tony La Russa said. "I'm sure the mental part of taking at-bats and handling pitching is going to be fine but it's more complicated. Since we need all of it, one may be ahead of the other, the glove may be ahead of the bat. It's a tough read, it's not easy."
